Adopt-a-Family
Town Club partners with the Prenatal and Pediatric Clinic of St. Clare's Dover Hospital
Bring holiday cheer to needy families. Each winter holiday season, Town Club members volunteer to 'adopt-a-family' identified by the Social Services director of the clinic, by shopping for items from each family's wish list. Gifts can be as basic as a big box of diapers, as utilitarian as a gift card to a superstore, or as special as a longed-for toy for a youngster.
Town Club volunteers may 'adopt' an individual or an entire family, and may specify gender/age of kids, to simplify shopping and to help get our own children involved in the selection of gifts and the spirit of giving to others.
As the holidays approach, volunteers will be assigned a person or family to buy for, along with a wish list of items, sizing info, etc, for that person[s]. Our Adopt-a-Family coordinator will try hard to accommodate specific gender/age requests.
One morning in late December, members drop off their gifts at St. Catherine's Church, where a team of Town Club volunteers pile all the festively wrapped packages into a caravan of cars, and take them to the Clinic at Dover Hospital. The gifts are later distributed to the grateful recipients.
