Program Description

Fall of 2010 will be the 8th season for the Recreation Field Hockey program.  Approximately 50 girls sign up each year.  There are 11 people on the field at a time, 1 goalie, 3 defensive players, 3 midfielders and 4 on attack.

We are part of a league this year called the Northern NJ Youth Field Hockey League and the games scheduled for 2 o'clock on Saturday afternoons.  (This is to be confirmed.)  Games will be played at the respective home fields of participating towns.  We will also schedule some after school games with neighboring towns.  We are also adding an optional extra practice Sunday afternoons, 12 - 1 pm on the Turf for those who are available.

This program focuses on fun and learning the game of field hockey.  One practice a week is required for safety reasons.  Players are not penalized for missing a practice.

Note to Parents

• Open to girls in 7th and 8th Grade from Boonton Township and Mountain Lakes.  A clinic program for 3rd through 6th grade is also available.
• Practices are on Wednesday and Thursday night, 5:30 - 7:00.
• Season runs from mid August to the end of October.
• Location of practices -- the side field to the left of Mountain Lakes High School.
• Coaches: Cathy Mitchell, Patti Drollinger, Albert Boerstoel.
• Purpose: To introduce the girls to the game of field hockey so they can make an informed decision to play or not to play in high school.
• Cost: $50 for the season.
• Equipment: stick, mouth guard, shin guards, cleats.  We now have a collection of sticks to lend out.  Soccer cleats and shin guards work for Field Hockey.
