The trolley began operating on July 6, 1910 as a single track extending from Denville to Boonton. It was owned and operated by the Morris County Traction Company and ran along the Boulevard where the path is today. The trolley stopped at the major intersections of Crane Road, Lake Drive, Briarcliff Road, and Glen Road. In Denville, the Boulevard trolley connected with a larger trolley system that spanned nearly all of Morris County, making it a popular mode of transportation in the days before automobiles were widespread. The Morris County Traction Company was sold at a public auction in 1927, with the last trolley running in Morris County on February 4, 1928.
