3. Mountain Lake & Island Beach
In the early 1930s, someone discovered that the Borough-owned land at the foot of Tower Hill Road was a perfect spot for a public beach on the “Big Lake”. Regular sailing races were held on Sundays on the Big Lake. Since wind conditions on the lake were extremely variable, many sailors who were able to master the Big Lake went on to win regional and even national competitions.
To Site 4: Luellen House
Leave the parking lot, make a left onto Lake Drive and follow it to the intersection with Dartmouth Road, where you will turn right. The Luellen House is #46, the second house on the right.
