7. Grimes House
4 Craven Road
The Grimes house was originally constructed at 45 Bloomfield Avenue during the late 18th century. The house was a prominent station on the Underground Railroad, helping runaway slaves reach the safety of Canada. Due to its historical significance, it was entered into the National Register of Historic Sites on April 4, 1977. The original site was threatened by a new office building, so the Mountain Lakes Historical Society moved it to this site.
Turn left onto Intervale Road and follow it back to the fork where you bear left onto Midvale Road. After you pass the Midvale Stores, make a right onto Morris Avenue and then a right into the Library parking lot.
Congratulations!
You have completed the Mountain Lakes Historical Optional Tour.
