Environmental Commission Fauna Inventory

Observed Species

In 2008, the Environmental Commission engaged TNH Consulting of Rockaway NJ to compile an survey of vertebrate and some invertebrate species in Mountain Lakes Borough during late November and December, 2008. TNH compiled a report issued in Feb 2009 listing species actually observed or for which evidence was found during their survey.

Likely Species

In addition to species that were actually observed or evidence found in Mountain Lakes, TNH also provided lists of the vertebrate species -- fish, reptiles and amphibians, birds, and mammal -- known to occur historically or currently in Mountain Lakes, as well as a list of invertebrate butterflies and odonates. This information was compiled from database searches, a few state sources, and unpublished material.

Audubon Database

The National Audubon Society maintains a Christmas Bird Count database of counts of birds in various locations.  Anyone can explore the database and find out what bird populations are in their location and what changes have occurred over the years.  If you are interested in the Boonton area, go to Current Results and use Option C: Count Code "NJBO".
