The Garden Club of Mountain Lakes
Calendar 2007 - 2008
The Garden Club meets on a formal basis from September to June,
usually on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 9 am for a business
meeting, followed immediately by a program. Unless otherwise
noted, we meet in the lower level community meeting room of the
Library on Elm Road.
Programs that are open to the public are listed here
and a guest fee of $10 will be collected at the door.
Other activities for members only include workshops, field trips
and anything else that sparks an interest.
We are a working club and welcome anyone who has a sincere interest
in learning more about any aspect of gardening.

The Swamp Pink and Other
Native Wetland Plants
In 2007, the Garden Club of Mountain Lakes
contributed to the funding of Ari Novy's study of the Swamp Pink
(Helonias bullata). This federally endangered wetland
plant is found in the eastern US, but due to the cumulative effects
of industrialization, the once numerous populations have dwindled
to approximately 120. As a part of his graduate studies at
Rutgers, Mr. Novy is in the process of completing a population
structure study of the Swamp Pink. He will join us to discuss
the Swamp Pink and other wetland plants. Weather permitting,
a walk will be arranged after the program to view this plant in
its natural setting for those who are interested.
