The Board of Christian Outreach oversees the church's charitable support of needy individuals and organizations in neighboring communities.
Outreach's goals are to maintain open communication with the church membership regarding the beneficiaries of this support, to encourage active participation in Outreach activities, and to facilitate volunteerism.
Each year, The Community Church generously sets aside a portion of its budget for contributions to worthy non-profit agencies. One of Outreach's primary functions is to choose the recipients and allocate the available funds. In recent years, as many as fifteen area organizations have received monetary donations.
On occasion, Outreach invites representatives of these or other charitable agencies to speak at informal gatherings after church, or to participate in Volunteer Fair in order to introduce the congregation to these entities in a personal way. The Board also keeps us informed on how our major gifts to "OUR CHURCH'S WIDER MISSION (OCWM)" through the United Church of Christ, reach out to meet national and world needs. Outreach maintains a bulletin board with information and opportunities for volunteers.
While the SCEEP tutoring program is run by a separate team of volunteers, Outreach provides support and responds to the needs of the coordinators. The Board is also responsible for finding individuals to contribute weekly dinners for the children, and coordinates the donation by church members of Christmas stockings for each SCEEP participant. In addition, Outreach sponsors a coat drive for the Market Street Mission each October, and a Christmas dinner for members of the Mental Health Association of Morris County social clubs each December.
The Board of Christian Outreach is continually looking for new ways to serve our congregation and our communities at large.
