MUSIC

The Community Church is blessed with a fine tradition of music to accentuate our spiritual growth.  the choirs of our church prepare the youngest to the oldest to lead in worship through the singing of hymns and anthems of the past and present.  Scripture and poetry enhanced by music is an added means of deepening the faith and spiritual life of each individual.  Choir members have the opportunity to grow in musicianship while sharing their gifts with the church at large.

The first priority of the Music Ministry is to support the message of the scriptures and sermons of each Sunday worship service.  Music is presented as an act of prayer and praise, not performance.

Music by the Chancel, Youth, Gloria, Alleluia and Cherub Choirs, and the Bell Choir enrich our worship during the church year.  Everyone is welcome to share their musical interests with our congregation and share in the joy music brings to our services.  We encourage parents to enroll their children at the earliest age.  The "language" of music learned at this stage is more naturally accomplished and of lasting value.

The Music Committee, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Board of Deacons, is responsible for sponsoring the choirs, as well as the music requirements for children and youth musicals, and the special occasion when the message is brought entirely through the song in the context of worship.

Major works presented in recent years include: Handel's Messiah, Haydn's The Creation, Mendelssohn's Elijah, Brahms' A German Requiem (excerpts), Vaughn William's Fine Mystical Songs, and Menotti's Amahl and the Night Visitors.
