A meeting of the Mountain Lakes Web Site Committee was held on Jan 09, 2008 at the Mountain Lakes Borough Hall.  In attendance were Chairman Andy Bulfer, Clive Knowles, Nilesh Shringarpure, and Borough Council Liaison Blair Schleicher-Wilson.  Absent was Mark Watrous.

Activities Since Last Time

• Andy Bulfer fixed bad links that were identified at the last meeting.
• Mark Watrous used Unix software capabilities to locate every mention of previous Borough Manager Gary Webb and, for those referring to him in current or future terms, changed it to Joe Tempesta.
• Andy Bulfer converted the Facilities Committee PowerPoint presentation that had been given at the MLHS to HTML and added it to the Facilities Committee page.
• Clive Knowles made changes to the Shade Tree Commission pages at their request.
• Andy Bulfer added several Committee meeting minutes.
• Nilesh Shringarpure completed the Nite Owls pages. This involved porting them from their current ISP to our site and was a surprisingly difficult and complex task. The pages look almost identical except better than they did before. The Nite Owls seem pleased.
• Andy Bulfer converted the Facilities Committee final report to pdf and installed it on the Facilities Committee site.
• Andy Bulfer updated Blair Schleicher-Wilson's biography with the correct number of her grand children.
• Clive Knowles made many changes to the LWV pages including setting up a cool survey page that permits users to enter their energy usage to determine how well they are doing at energy conservation.
• Andy Bulfer updated the dog/cat licensing page at the request of Borough Clerk Robin Steele.
• Andy Bulfer created a write up on Duke Smith, added a digital photograph he had taken at Memorial Day 2007 and put them on the front page.
• Andy Bulfer added the Oral History of Duke Smith provided by the HPC to the "Voices of the Past" page. This was done in November 2007, 1½ months prior to Smith's unfortunate passing.
• Andy Bulfer changed the front page image to photos of the Borough Christmas Tree and the Borough Menorah. He used JavaScript software to choose one or the other at random, each with 50% probability, each time a visitor viewed the page. The image of the Christmas Tree was one he had taken last year that had snow on the ground. Although the lights are not usually on during the day, Bulfer combined a daylight photo and a nighttime photo from exactly the same location using Photoshop to make the lights visible.
• Andy Bulfer created a biography of Borough Manager Joe Tempesta from data in the The Citizen article and a picture from the West Caldwell Web site and installed on the Borough Manager page.
• Andy Bulfer set up an e-mail address for Joe Tempesta and installed a autoresponder ("vacation mail") on Gary Webb's e-mail address.
• Andy Bulfer cleaned up the Borough Council agendas and minutes listing, eliminating all older than one year.

The following are benchmarks and their values since the last meeting:

1. Files (Jan 9): HTML-1358, Image-1792, Pdf-92.
2. Bad Links (Jan 9): insignificant;
3. Notice Board (since last mtg): Approved-20, Community Bulletin Board-6.

Old Business

• MAC -- The MAC Web pages are in seriously out-of-date condition.  Their current Web coordinator has moved but we don't have a solid answer yet about who will coordinate their material.  Blair Wilson will contact them.
• Girl Scouts -- In Mark Watrous' absence, the status of this was unknown.
• Nite Owls -- As noted above, Nilesh Shringarpure has finished porting their pages to our site and made them visible.
• FAQs -- These pages are somewhat out-of-date.  Blair Wilson was assigned to work on them.
• Green Hints -- Clive Knowles has not yet heard from the LWV how they want to do them.

No Progress

• Broadcast E-mail System -- Andy Bulfer was told by Mayor George Jackson that Borough Manager Joe Tempesta will work on this later, after the Borough budget is finalized.
• Search Engine
• Monthly Traffic Report
• Top Menu -- Andy Bulfer has not yet rolled the redesign out to all the appropriate pages.

New Business

• Instances of 2007 -- It was decided to use Unix capabilities to search for instances of "2007" since some may indicate out-of-date pages.

The next regular meeting will be on Wed, Feb 13, 2008 at Borough Hall.
