Web Site Committee
Meeting Minutes -- October 10, 2007
A meeting of the Mountain Lakes Web Site Committee was held on Oct 10, 2007 at the Mountain Lakes Borough Hall. In attendance were Chairman Andy Bulfer, Nilesh Shringarpure, Mark Watrous, and Borough Council Liaison Steve Shaw. Absent was Clive Knowles.
Activities Since Last Time
- Andy Bulfer put on an ad for a new borough manager with a link to it on the front page.
- Mark Watrous performed maintenance activities on the Boy Scouts page.
- Clive Knowles updated the Garden Club Calendar.
- Nilesh Shringarpure worked extensively on the Nite-Owls pages.
- Andy Bulfer changed the Lake Drive Foundation on Community page at request of Sueanne Peacock Sylvester.
- Mark Watrous continued to monitor the traffic and error logs. He reported that the error rate rose this month due to the Town Club pages throwing off errors (Old Business, below).
- Clive Knowles added to the LWV page a notice for their public forum to explain and discuss the 2007 Stem Cell Research Bond Act.
- Andy Bulfer worked with Philip Notestine to make his NB notice have two links for coyotes and bears.
- Clive Knowles removed an outdated article from the Shade Tree Commission page at their request.
- Andy Bulfer updated the whois data for mtnlakes.org. This involved updating the Administrative and Technical contacts for the domain. (Probably need to do our other domain mountainlakesnj.org too.)
- Clive Knowles added a flyer to the LWV pages announcing their Immigration Panel on October 20.
- Andy Bulfer removed the links to the individual schools on the Schools page and replaced them with a single link to a landing page on mtlakes.org.
- Andy Bulfer removed the dynamically generated water usage chart.
- Andy Bulfer removed the fall photo of the Lake with swans and replaced it with a terrific photo of the Cove taken by Joe Longobardi, Marybeth Smith's father.
- Andy Bulfer changed the Traffic and Safety Committee meeting time at the request of Diane Hertzig.
- Andy Bulfer put a notice on the front-page Notice Board about the Borough Facilities Committee being on the Web site.
- Andy Bulfer put a meeting minutes link on the Borough Facilities Committee page and uploaded three minutes.
- Andy Bulfer added the First Presbyterian Church in Boonton to Houses of Worship page as decided by the Committee at its last meeting.
Public Comments
None.
Old Business
- Town Club, Swim Club and MAC -- Nothing has happened on these sites yet. Their current Web coordinator is moving but we don't have a solid answer yet about who will coordinate their material. As noted above, the Town Club is generating Apache errors. Andy Bulfer will contact them. Nilesh Shringarpure said he might finally have found a contact for MAC.
- Nite-Owls -- Nilesh Shringarpure reported he has the transfer of the site to our server nearly complete. It should be finished by Saturday. Andy Bulfer will inform them. There was discussion of CSS techniques to improve the site visually.
- FAQs -- Steve Shaw's reported that he has begun working on them.
No Progress
- Broadcast E-mail System --Borough Manager Gary Webb is still working on the policies for it as requested by the Borough Council.
- Search Engine -- The Committee would still like a Search Engine on the front page. We had one with the previous server. One of the things that makes it difficult is a self-imposed requirement that the schools site (mtlakes.org) be included in the search results.
- Monthly Traffic Report -- Each Committee member currently receives a daily e-mail report on traffic handled by the Web site on the previous day. However, we would like the daily statistics rolled up into a monthly traffic report that could be distributed to a wider audience.
New Business
- Our Lady of Mount Carmel of Boonton -- The Committee received a request to accept a notice about a planned fundraiser to be held at the Villa in Mountain Lakes in November. Since it is not a Mountain Lakes organization, a notice would not comply with our Notice Board Policy. The policy does provide for an exception if the Web Committee approves. The Committee voted to approve the request. Andy Bulfer will inform them.
Date for Next Meeting
The next regular meeting will be on Wed Nov 14, 2007 at Borough Hall.
Andy Bulfer,
Chairman
