Web Site Committee

Meeting Minutes -- June 14, 2006

A meeting of the Mountain Lakes Web Site Committee was held on June 14, 2006 at the Mountain Lakes Borough Hall.  In attendance were Clive Knowles, Mark Watrous and Chairman Andy Bulfer.  Absent were Nilesh Shringarpure, and Borough Council Liaison George Jackson.

Activities Since Last Meeting

  • Andy Bulfer put a series of Arbor Day photos & poems on the Shade Tree Commission page at the request of Jay Eveleth.  He also put on an STC Home and School article

  • Clive Knowles put extensive work into the Swimming/Diving section of the Recreation Pages.

  • Nilesh Shringarpure finished correcting and formatting Borough Manager Gary Webb's biography page.

  • Clive Knowles did a number of small items on the Notice Board, generally watched over it, and resolved minor issues as they arose.

  • Andy Bulfer put on the home page a series of 17 photos taken at Memorial Day.  He programmed it to show one at random each time the home page is displayed.

  • Andy Bulfer installed the Consumer Confidence water quality report

  • Andy Bulfer met at Borough Hall with Jay Eveleth and Joan Best to discuss the proposed Shade Tree Database.  This proposal would allow someone to put their address into a Web page form and obtain a listing of the details of the trees in the Borough right of way in front of their house.

  • Andy Bulfer made a minor change to the Library Ebsco database URL

  • Andy Bulfer changed the prices of marriage license certified copies to $10 from $4 for each copy at the request of Borough Hall.

  • Andy Bulfer added Coach Mike Pilazzi’s name to the track pages

  • Andy Bulfer fixed up the Sailing Assoc pages per Mark Hayward.

  • Andy Bulfer received the June HSA Bulletin.  As usual, it was in one single large pdf file.  Since we display it on the Web site in six sections, Bulfer split up the file, extracted the jpeg cover, and installed them all on the Web site.

Old Business

  • Back in March, Andy Bulfer had asked George Jackson to review and update the FAQs page.  Jackson reported last month that he was working on it.  Since he didn't attend the meeting, the Committee does not know where he stands with it.

  • Several months ago, Andy Bulfer submitted four ideas to the LINC coordinator at MLHS for consideration for student projects.  The following were submitted:
    1. The Dept of Public Works for the Borough Section,
    2. Defeat of the pumped storage reservoir in the Tourne for the History Section,
    3. The Synthatron story for the History Section,
    4. The story behind the old chimney in Wilcox Park for the Trails Section.

Although she committed to doing all four and promised they would be completed by June 13 (the date of High School graduation) we have heard nothing.  Bulfer told the Committee that he has tried to reach the MLHS LINC coordinator many times to find out the status but she has not responded to his calls or e-mails.

  • The Committee would still like a Search Engine on the front page.  We had one with the previous server.  The Committee is still struggling with requirements and how it should work.  One of the things that makes it difficult is that we wish the Schools site (mtlakes.org) to be included in the search results.

  • We have the daily traffic report working well but the Committee would like the daily statistics rolled up into a monthly traffic report.  So far, no progress has been made.

  • We are waiting to hear from the Shade Tree Commission about how they wish to pursue the proposed searchable database of trees in the Borough right-of-way.

New Business

  • Andy Bulfer reported that the HPC would like the Walking Tour created by two Girl Scouts, Emily Nix and Jessica Barlow, on the Web site.  The Walk Tour is excellent but the MSword file is very large.  The Committee discussed how it would accomplish the task.  Clive Knowles volunteered to look into it.

Date for Next Meeting

The next regular meeting will be on Jul 12, 2006 at Borough Hall.

Chairman
