Web Site Committee

Minutes – September 8, 2004

The September meeting of the Mountain Lakes Web Site Committee was held on Sep 08, 2004 at Borough Hall. In attendance were Emily Wolfe, Mark Watrous, Chairman Andy Bulfer and Borough Council Liaison, Blair Wilson.

Activities Since Last Meeting

  • Andy received from Jay Eveleth, the Shade Tree representative, all the available Shady Tree articles that have been published by the Shade Tree Commission in the HS Bulletin. Eveleth now wishes to have some type of interactive page in which a person can put in their address and determine how wide the Borough Right-of-Way is adjacent to their property. The details have not yet been worked out.

  • Emily has been working with Jason Clarke, a representative of the Medical Needs Foundation, to put material about that organization on the Web site. It's a pretty big job.

  • Andy was contacted by Sonja Muesser to put material about the Senior Citizens on the site.

  • There are now over 3 dozen Oral Histories on the site and they are fascinating. We're told by the HPC there are more to come.

Discussion Items

  • The Web site is getting near it's maximum allowed disk capacity. It is thought there are many unused obsolete files on the system. Andy has a program to identify such files. He will run it and remove all unwanted files.

  • Another possible source of disk usage is unused mail in the mailboxes of Borough Hall workers. We don't know whether or not this is a real problem. Mark will log on to the site and figure out how much of the disk usage is in mailboxes.

  • The Woodlands Committee, run by Jerry Uhrig, has a large amount of material that should be on the Web site. Andy will contact Jerry and either give him a login or otherwise arrange for the material to be uploaded.

  • Blair Wilson reported that the Borough Clerk has been having problems uploading Borough Council agendas and minutes. Andy will contact her and work with her to resolve the problems

  • Mark will contact Wendy Vandame, the representative of UN Weekend, and make sure their material is on the Web site.

  • Blair Wilson's bio is out of date. She will forward updates to Andy for installation.

  • Emily will put on material about the Spirit 5K, including the entry form.

  • Andy will put on a notice about the 9-11 Memorial Ceremony this weekend.

  • Emily will find or create a patriotic jpg to put on the front page with an exhortation to register to vote.

  • The committee decided to draft a letter to all the committees and community organizations telling them how to create their own material for the site. There are two possibilities:
    1. If they are very skilled and their material is unusually dynamic, we can give them a login.
    2. They can use MS Word to develop their page and click "Save As" html. Then send us the material. We'll give them one page.
    3. If they don't have the skills or interest, we'll have to urge them to send us the material by e-mail and we'll do it for them as usual.
Emily will draft a proposed letter for the committee to review.

  • Blair proposed a new committee member, John Riley. Andy will contact him.

  • It was decided that a notice requesting volunteers for all Borough committees, including the Web Committee, will be put in the HS Bulletin. The notice will list the committees that need volunteers and designate the Borough Clerk as contact. Blair will prepare the notice. Since the Bulletin deadline is in two days, there is need for urgency.

Date for Next Meeting

The next regular meeting will be on Weds Oct 13, 2004 at Borough Hall.
