Web Site Committee

Minutes – February 15, 2001

The February meeting was held on Feb 15, 2001 at Emily Wolfe’s house. In attendance were Wolfe, Sally Santiago, Andy Bulfer, and George Jackson. Stephanie Johns arrived late and was there for the later part of the meeting.

One of the major accomplishments this month was adding a great deal of material to the Mountain Lakes History section and organizing it better. Wolfe’s design is a great improvement and she was congratulated.

There was extensive discussion of the Community section. Santiago, Wolfe, and Johns are interested in this area and will focus on it. It was decided to build content by contacting the following organizations. Most of these will be Type 1 organizations.

Santiago will contact and prepare content for:

  • Home and School,
  • Jewish Community Organization,
  • Laker Sports,
  • Senior Citizens,
  • Sailing Assoc..

Wolfe will contact and prepare content for:

  • Woods and Lakes Run,
  • UN Weekend,
  • Lake Drive Education Foundation,
  • YMCA.

Johns will contact and prepare content for:

  • Boy Scouts
  • Soccer Assoc.
  • Women’s Club

Jackson will contact Peter Croken about the Trails Committee.

Wolfe is also working on material for a series of pages on the Community Church.

There was some discussion about the Jewish Community Organization. Nobody at the meeting knew what this was, whether or not it is a bone fide organization or just an ad hoc series of individual activities, and whether it should be under Community Organizations or Houses of Worship. It was suggested that Santiago contact Bonnie Citron or Gayle Joseph.

Bulfer will focus on the Borough Hall pages. There is a lot of work to do here. The first objective will be to get material on some of the major borough hall functions, police, municipal court, volunteer, fire department, health office, planning board, and zoning board of adjustment.

It is also desired to have comprehensive content on the Recreation Commission and Recreation Department. Bulfer will work on this by contacting Nick Tensen of the Recreation Commission.

Bulfer will request a link back from the Lacrosse Assoc.

It was desired to have something about the web site in the H&S Bulletin. At least the URL should be displayed on the cover.

It was felt that the design of the planning board page is unattractive. Wolfe will take a look at it.

The pictures and bios of the Borough Council members need to be updated and the newly elected Council members added.

The committee felt that a having a Community Calendar on the web site should be a major priority. Bulfer will look into the types of web Calendar software that are available. Members of the committee are requested to help.

Andy Bulfer,
Chairman

The types of content are:

Type 1 – Relatively simple and minor content, doesn’t change often (e.g. Senior Citizens). The web committee installs it using a standard template.
Type 2 – Major, important organization (e.g. Environmental Commission) but doesn’t have the skills or interest to do it themselves. Web committee prepares customized pages on their behalf.
Type 3 – Important organization that has the skills and interest to do it themselves (e.g. League of Women Voters). Web committee provides a login and space on the Borough server. Web committee also monitors quality and offers help where needed.
Type 4 – Organization has their content on another system (e.g. St. Peters Episcopal Church). Web committee provides a link to them.
