The Rec Commission welcomed Ellen Emr, the Council’s new
liaison to the
Commission.
Peter Holmberg agreed to update the Commission at the next (or
other future) meeting of the progress he, Rich Mancuso and James Smith had made
in forming a subcommittee of the Commission to be responsible for helping
prepare a proposed Recreation capital budget and then tracking compliance with
the budget and maintenance expenses. The
three gentlemen will look out 3 years in developing the plan and take into
account the proposals from Dede’s Beach Report and the recommendations from the
annual Facilities Tour.
Denise
reported that Summer Rec will be at the High School for 2008 due to
construction
at
Wildwood. It will run from 6/30/08 to 8/8/08. On February 27, 2008 we will hold a
parent
meeting at
how
best to improve the program and increase interest.
Kim Rozanitis gave an update on
the Swim Club activities planned for 2008.
They are recruiting a new coach to run the program.
February Family Fun Day –
will be Thursday, February 21 from 1 to 4:00 pm at the Mountain Lakes Public
Library.
Chili Cook-Off –
will be Saturday, March 8 at 8:00 pm at the Market.
Easter Egg Hunt – will
be Saturday, March 15 at 1:00 pm at Midvale (with rain date March 16).
4th of July –
Denise reported that the 4th of July this year falls on a
Friday. Our regular vendor may not be
available. The Commission preferred keeping
it on 7/4, but recognized vendor availability may be an issue. Denise to further investigate available
alternatives.
Tree Lighting – The
Commission thanked Joyce Prevoznik for stepping up and running the Tree
Lighting this year. Cold, icy weather adversely
impacted turnout but not the good cheer spread by the volunteers.
Monday Night Madness - is
being run at Wildwood for 5th -8th graders from 7:30 –
9:00 pm for 2 week time periods (self-defense, soccer, volleyball and baseball)
during January and February.
Tri-Town Hoops –
Mike Prevoznik reported that the Tri-Town Hoops program is running smoothly.
Celia Flynn is serving as the
Recreation Commission’s representative on the Mountain Lakes Master Plan
Committee. The Commission thanked Celia
for volunteering (yet again) to serve.
Celia handed out a document for members to review and provide her
comments before 2/7/08.
The
Commission expressed its deep appreciation for Duke Smith and all he did for
the
community
and its citizens. His many
accomplishments were fondly remembered.
The
Commission
supported the town recognizing Duke, in an appropriate fashion for one of
the
town’s finest citizens.
Ellen Emr raised the issue of
beach usage by non-residents. She wants
to align the
town’s ordinance with
signage. The Commission will devote
dedicated time to working
on these issues at future meetings
once the Council frames the issues properly.
