Minutes: The minutes of the January 23rd meeting were approved.
DIRECTOR’S REPORT:
Budget Update: Denise is still waiting for Council to finalize the budget.
Boonton Township Recreation: Kristin Groeneveld, the Recreation Director of Boonton Township, joined the meeting and discussed all the events her program will be offering this summer, including several being coordinated with Mountain Lakes Rec.
New Programs:
Spring/Summer Tennis: Mitch Rubenstein from Parks and Rec in Parsippany joined the meeting as invited guest and described a proposed tennis program involving over 200 participants: parents and kids are target audience for a 6-week program beginning May 26th. Bill Gaitlin will again run his tennis program this summer from June 26th through August 8th for middle school kids and older on Tuesdays from 5:30pm – 7:30pm.
Briarcliff Baseball/Softball: Bud Luzzi joined the meeting to discuss the expansion of the interscholastic programs at Briarcliff Middle School. The middle school is lacking in scholastic events compared to a vast majority of other Morris County middle schools. To-date, the junior Lakers Sports Club has raised $6,000. Coaches will agree to coach for free and parents will drive children to the games. They will have a 15-game schedule. James Smith has volunteered to coach baseball. However, the program still needs volunteers to assist with wrestling, soccer and volleyball.
Running Club: Mike gave the following update from Peter Holmberg on the Mountain Lakes Running Club: The Running Club Mission is to provide the Mountain Lakes community support, encouragement, motivation, and camaraderie. The program expects to begin on Saturday’s starting in April. Membership is being solicited by word of mouth, the H&S Bulletin, and the Woods and Lakes announcement. Each run will cost $2 to fund bagels and Gatorade post run. A logo is being designed for shirts or sweats. A request for the bathrooms and shack at Birchwood to be opened for these runs has been made.
Speed Camp: This summer, Sam Salimo will run a speed camp in late afternoons, 3pm to 5pm or 6pm as a Tri-Town program for ages 12 and up.
Tri-Town Soccer Camp: Camp will start on July 2nd and run through July 6th from 9am-12pm by the European Soccer Academy at RFL.

Upcoming Events Calendar:
Chili Cook-Off is scheduled for Sunday, March 25th at 6pm at the Market and the cost is $15; Easter Egg Hunt is scheduled for Saturday, March 31st at 1pm, volunteers are needed to help set up and clean; Trout Derby Stocking is scheduled for Friday, April 20th and the Derby is scheduled for Saturday, April 21st; the first Movie Night will be on Friday, June 8th. There will also be a July movie night. Fireworks are scheduled for Wednesday, July 4th and the rain date is Sunday, July 8th; Summer Rec will run from July 2nd through August 10th. Denise will put ads in the Bulletin; Yoga on the Beach will return this summer.
OTHER BUSINESS:
Tri-Town Hoops Re-Cap:
Mike Prevoznik summarized the results of the Tri-Town Hoops program that ran
from December 2nd – March 3rd on Saturdays. The teams consisted of 3rd – 6th
grade boys and girls from Boonton, Mountain Lakes, and Boonton Township. Games were held at Wildwood, RVS,
Briarcliff, and School Street gyms. The
program is growing; this season it had 96 boys and 74 girls participate. There
were 20 volunteer coaches. The program
received many favorable compliments
from the parents who also shared how much their children enjoyed playing.
New Member Nominations: Blair Wilson to submit Peter Sentowski and Rich Mancuso names to Council for consideration to fill vacancy.
Beach Report: The beach signs must be modified to reflect new times open, “Dawn to Dusk.” Dede will put an ad in the paper for lifeguards. The goal is to hire all lifeguards by May 1st.
The Commission agreed that there should be a $100 deposit for any group using Island or Birchwood Beach. Denise Brennan will prepare a draft policy for the Commission to review.
Non-Resident Use of Facilities: Blair Wilson reported that the Council is requesting that the Rec Commission review nonresident use of Borough Rec facilities and programs and make a recommendation based on the Commission’s findings. This may include non-resident tuition students as well.
