DIRECTOR’S REPORT:
Web: Denise reports that the web page has been updated and is up and running thanks to the hard work of Andy Bulfer. Members should review and provide Denise or Andy with comments.
Summer Recreation Update: 165 children have signed up, but sign up is continuing every day. 20 children signed up on the day of this meeting and there will probably be more doing so in the days ahead. The staff is in excellent shape with Brad Davidson once again overseeing the program, with new hires of Vicki Patterson overseeing the craft room, Jennifer Moshelli (5th grade student teacher) overseeing art, and Matt Gotilla overseeing games. Denise has already set up many different activities for the campers including a juggler, puppet show, lizard guy, martial arts, and a ventriloquist. She is working with Gerry Uhrich from the Environmental Commission to develop a nature walk and is working on a tri-town carnival as well. Denise handed out a calendar of scheduled activities.
Beaches: The beaches are open! A new group called the “Beach Blends” is now selling ice cream and various items from 12:00 to 8:00 p.m. daily at Island Beach. This is a very welcome addition to our beach facilities. Health Inspection passed at both Birchwood and Island Beach.
Fireworks: After some mix up at Kinko’s, the flyer is ready to go out to the community.
Facilities Tour: Most things that needed to be addressed have been done at the beaches.
NEW PROGRAMS:
Yoga at the Beach: Has begun on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 7:00 to 8:00 a.m. Cards can be purchased for multiple classes or the fee is $15.00 to drop in. The class is taught by Barbara Kane from the LHY.
Tri-town Tennis: Will begin Wednesday nights and is overseen by Bill Gatlin and four college students. The program costs $25.00 and is a round robin tournament structure for 6th to 8th grade players. Some experience is necessary, but this offers a wonderful opportunity for play in this age group. Forms are available on-line and at Borough Hall.
SPECIAL EVENTS:
Touch a Truck: 14 different vehicles were made available for children to explore from all three towns. Police gave out paper badges, the Fire Department gave out balloons and much goodwill and good fun was had by all. Approximately 300 children attended and it was nicely covered by the press. This was an excellent job done by Denise!
Fireworks and Fourth of July: Set-up at Island will begin at 2:00 p.m. so beach will be closed at 1:00 p.m. Denise has called DPW to ask for clean-up the next morning at 7:00 a.m.
Fun Races: These are scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. at the Mountain Lakes Club. Anyone who can help, please come at 9:00 a.m.
