Absent: James Smith, Dede Conlan, Mike Davies, Bob Wilson

MINUTES:     The minutes of our December 20, 2005 meeting were approved.

Welcome New Members: We are very happy to have Peter Holmberg join us on the Recreation Commission, having the difficult task of filling the very large shoes of Duke Smith.  We also welcomed Louise Davis as our new Council liaison.  She replaces George Jackson who was extremely effective in his role and a pleasure to work with.  George will be missed but we are quite pleased to have Peter and Louise join us.

DIRECTOR’S REPORT:

BUDGET:        The Commission discussed the budget and some of the requests that will impact the upcoming year. Scott Richards discussed the possibility that Mountain Lakes will host both the Hub Lakes Swim Meet and the Lakeland A’s Swim Meet this summer.  Extra guards will be needed for these events.  The Recreation Director’s salary was discussed and it was agreed that Mike Prevoznik would speak to Gary Webb directly on the issue.

SUMMER RECREATION:     Denise is collaborating with Rosemary Lynch of Boonton Township and Ann Rose of Boonton to book upcoming events for our summer programs. Beach day/water day and pony rides are some of the events booked.  Two movie nights are being considered with attempts for local sponsorships from area businesses. One night would be scheduled during the beginning of July and the other at the beginning of August.

Summer Recreation camp will start a week earlier, on June 26th due to the earlier closing of our schools and run for seven weeks.  The Commission discussed the pricing schedules for Summer Recreation. Denise is planning to need about 40 full time counselors, three specialized area leaders and one overall Leader for the program. This is fewer counselors than last summer. The Commission approved the attached proposed pricing schedule of the summer rec program.

SPECIAL EVENTS:

TOUCH A TRUCK:    This is a new event that we will host May 7th from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. It will include Boonton Township and Boonton and be held at the RFL fields for local elementary school children. Area Fire Trucks, Ambulances, Police Cars and Municipality trucks will be available for viewing by the children. Coloring books and some educational materials will also be available. Denise mentioned that a punch card will be made for the children to carry as they look at the different vehicles on display. This program will be free with donations gathered and split between the towns.
