SUMMER RECREATION: Brad Davidson has been hired as the Summer Recreation Supervisor. He has been a student teacher and 5th grade assistant with Darrell Fusco. He also oversees the resource room at Wildwood. He was a volunteer coach for the MLHS girl’s softball teach and has received first aid training. Brad will meet with Sean Dolan and others for input and information about the program. Lindsey Hordes will serve again as a supervisor in the arts and Evan Dolan will oversee the sports programs. The informational meeting for parents of campers and councilors went very well and communication is already much improved. Councilors will be given two T-shirts with “STAFF” written across the back and they will be required to wear cargo shorts of appropriate length. There have been at least 65 applicants and two training sessions are set up: one on safety and another regarding counselor training.

Denise is working to bring more programs into the summer recreational program while sharing the costs with Boonton and Boonton Township. Denise has also contacted Bank of America to sponsor some events for the children. Bowling at Boonton Lanes, Pony riding in Boonton Township and a Water Day in Mountain Lakes are scheduled.

The summer recreation program has been extended to include children entering the 8th grade as campers. There have been no complaints about the increase pricing structure.

FOURTH OF JULY: The mailing requesting donations will be out soon. The mailing will also include information on the summer concert series and the tri-town movie nights. Members suggested that a section of Midvale Road could be blocked off to allow community members to view the fireworks. Denise will speak to the police department to make this request.

SUMMER CONCERT SERIES: The nights scheduled for this event are July 24th, July 31st, and August 7th at Island Beach and August 14 at the Esplanade. The program will begin around 6:30 pm.

Face painting, games and fun, child orientated activities will run prior to the movie with hot dogs, soda, and popcorn offered for sale. The first movie with be “A Series of Unfortunate Events”, the second “Sponge Bob” and the last will be “Chitty, Chitty, Bang, Bang”.

MOUNTAIN LAKES DAY: The Recreation Commission will have a table at this event with sign up sheets available for summer recreation and information with tickets for the Movie Nights.

BUDGET UPDATE:

BUDGET: George Jackson reported that the budget has passed. The time spent on the job by the Recreation Director will be tracked to ensure that the salary connected to the position is commiserate with the time required. Denise also spoke with Gary discussing the new possibility of gaining grant monies with the advent of tri-town events. The Municipal Alliance might give funding if clips are run during events that sponsor non-drug use.

FACILITIES: Members discussed their dismay at how much garbage is left around the town. The tennis court work was approved and Denise requested that the work be done sooner rather then later because the courts are needed for the girls’ team in August. George agreed to contact Gary via e-mail these issues.

OTHER BUSINESS:

BEACH REPORT: Dede is in the process of hiring and testing lifeguards.

MEMBERSHIP: Mike Prevoznik distributed a letter from Steve Corley requesting to leave the Recreation Commission. It is with great regret that we lose this member of our Commission and he must be thanked profusely for all his hard work and dedication throughout the many years served.
