DIRECTOR'S REPORT:

SPECIAL EVENTS:
MBA: Successful Season. There will be a coaches meeting upcoming to plan for next year. The program used the "Tri-Town" logo and had wonderful coordination in leadership throughout the three towns. Mountain Lakes children made up almost half of the participants.

SUMMER RECREATION: Denise, Mike P., Celia and Sean Dolan met earlier to address some of the issues that have been raised regarding this program. The new expanded hours from 9:00 to 1:00 pm that were presented at our last meeting was met with some disappointment from the Swim program because of it cutting into their time with participating children. A compromise was made with the Recreation program running from 9:00 to 12:30 pm with swimmers having the ability to leave ½ hour early if needed. In addition, all special events will be held earlier in the day not to interfere with the demands of the Swim program. This will eliminate the need for campers to have a lunchtime scheduled. Parents will simply supply their children with a large snack in the morning. Denise will schedule an information night for the parents of campers and counselors during May. At that time, the schedule for special activities will be completed for presentation to parents of upcoming campers. This meeting will be a forum to encourage communication and address expectations. A dress code for counselors was also decided, with counselors wearing a camp T-shirt with chino shorts at all times. This will make the counselors feel more professional, more responsible and will identify counselors to campers, parents and the public. A bike rodeo, bowling day and beach days has been set. Denise is still looking to coordinate programs with Boonton Township and Boonton. She would like to host more on-site events for the campers.

SUPERVISED FREE PLAY: This program will begin in April and run through the end of May on Friday afternoons fro, 3:30 to 4:30 at the Lake Drive Playground. This program is for third graders and up. Younger children will need to have personal supervision.

EASTER EGG HUNT: Debbie (with ears costume) happily reported that all went well, with an excellent turnout (especially considering the weather). Big "thank you" to Kings and Starbucks for the donations of desserts, coffee and hot chocolate. Many helping hands were in evidence from MLHS and Briarcliff. Thanks to Patti MacElduff. Sadly, James' car still smells like coffee, but it could be worse.

TROUT DERBY: This event will be held on April 23rd. The lake will be stocked Friday, April 22nd at 4:00 pm.

FIREWORKS/4TH OF JULY: Fireworks will be on Monday night, July 4th with a rain date set for July 10th, the following Sunday. Debbie will inform the Club of the dates. A letter will be sent out asking for donations. Sponsors will be listed at the bottom of the letter. The vendor will be the same as last year.

SUMMER CONCERT SERIES: Denise spoke to Terry Hammer and Herb Maddock of the Silver Starlight Orchestra. Three or four concerts will be scheduled throughout the summer on Sunday evenings at 6:00 pm. Debbie suggested that money could be raised to support the program by auctioning off picnic baskets of food made by women in town. Also, baskets can be passed for donations.

EVENING RECREATION: The position of supervisor for this program is open. It runs from July 6th through August 11th, Monday through Thursday from 6:30 to 9:00 pm in the Wildwood gym.

FACILITIES TOUR: The facilities tour is scheduled for Sunday, April 24th at 12:00. We will meet at Birchwood Lake. It will take about 1-½ hours.

FALL YOUTH LACROSSE: Frank Luciano, Jr. has asked to develop a Fall Youth Lacrosse Program but Denise reports that we do not have fields available to support this. The Committee also questioned whether we would want to support a program that would make a sport year round for some children. Studies have shown that children should be exposed to various sports throughout their youth without narrowing that focus until bodies and minds have further developed.

TRACK: This program is working to reorganize with many different individuals stepping up to take responsibilities of different age groups. Sign ups will end April 1st with coach's clinics running on Wednesday, April 6th from 7:00 to 10:00 pm and Thursday, April 7th from 9:00 to Noon. These clinics will be held at Borough Hall and cost $25.00.

WOODS AND LAKES RUN: The run is scheduled for April 30th.

SWIM ASSOCIAITON: The Rec Commission will continue to pay for lifeguards (even when just for meets or early practice at the beginning of the summer), but will not pay for the ad in the bulletin.

TENNIS: The tennis sign up sheets will be in the April Bulletin.

TAFT FIELD: USA Soccer sports camp will use this field one week in April and in July. It will be a clinic for 4 to 5 year old children. George Jackson mentioned that the use of our fields by outside camps or private schools must be carefully overseen. Our fields often suffer from overuse.

BORO APPEARANCE COMMITTEE: This committee is now in hibernation and the Rec Commission has been asked to look at the possibility of taking over some of the responsibilities, such as "clean up community days." Denise will find out more information.

BUDGET UPDATE: Nothing specific to report.
