Meeting notes, March 6, 2008
Chairman Palmer called the meeting to order at 7:33 pm. The minutes of the last meeting were approved as corrected.
Discussion of Chapter VIII. Recreation Plan- the following changes were recommended: The increased use of recreational facilities is the result of these ( remove three) important trends.
1) The increased participation by all ( remove: young adults, a group not previously heavily involved in active recreation)
2) Add: A greater number of sports are offered and year round sports are also popular ( some children are playing two or three sports in a single season).
. The need for additional recreational facilities is felt at all times particularly after school and on weekends. ( remove on weekends when competition for facilities is most acute).
. There has been vocal….The major source of this pressure are the parents of children ( remove of younger children involved in organized sports and the sports organization of and for young adults)
Under Recreation Opportunities in Mountain Lakes
Change liabilities to challenges.
Under Existing lake-oriented Facilities
The following lake-oriented ( remove -public) facilities are currently available to residents ( remove -in the Borough).
In charts add:
Island Beach- entertainment
Midvale Boat Dock- swimming, fishing
The Cove- fishing swimming
Birchwood Beach- volleyball
Lakeland Hills Family YMCA- picnic tables, playground- Remove racquetball, indoor track
Halsey-Frederick Park- lacrosse, soccer, field hockey
Under Management and Efficient Use of Existing Facilities
Remove- Notwithstanding the potential for additional facilities on the old Office Court site ( see Additional Recreation Facilities below)
Under Additional Recreational Facilities-
Remove – the first paragraph.
Under Improvements to Alden L. Haswell Memorial Field
Remove- the last sentence.
IX. Recycling Plan
Under Recycling Objectives
Add- 4. Mountain Lakes schools and municipal properties should recycle.
Under Mountain Lakes Recycling Program- Residential Collection and Storage
Change to : Branches and Christmas trees left at curbside, are collected.
Under Maintain Commitment to Recycling
Change to: Mountain Lakes needs to be proactive in providing and educating residents on recycling opportunities.
