The Planning Board has formed a subcommittee to review the Mountain Lakes Master Plan. A municipal Master Plan contains a town's vision and goals for its future and is the basis for all land use ordinances. Our current Master Plan was adopted in 1996. By law, a Master Plan must be reexamined at least every 6 years. Mountain Lakes reexamined its Master Plan in 2002 and is doing so again this year. The committee will review each chapter of the current plan and recommend any changes or revisions in a reexamination report.
The Plan includes the following elements:
- Community Characteristics;
- Statement of Objectives, Principles, Assumptions and Policies;
- Land Use Plan;
- Housing Element and Fair Share Plan;
- Circulation Plan;
- Community Facilities and Utilities Plan;
- Recreation Plan; Recycling Plan;
- Historic Preservation Plan.
The committee, which is made up of members of the Planning Board as well as representatives of several other committees and commissions, meets twice a month in Borough Hall. All meetings are open to the public and interested residents are welcome to attend. The committee would also be happy to receive written comments on the current plan. The Mountain Lakes Master Plan is available at the library or it can be viewed on line.
