HEALTH COMMISSION
MEETING MINUTES
FEBRUARY 6, 2008

ALSO PRESENT: Mr. J. Wozniak, Health Officer & Councilwoman B. Wilson, Liaison
Dr. Girz, Chairman of the Health Commission opened the meeting at 8:10 P.M.
Councilwoman Blair Wilson is the new Council Liaison for 2008.
The Commission reviewed the Health Officer’s Activities Reports for December and January. There have been two bats sent down to Trenton. The Secretary asked if this was abnormal for the winter. Mr. Wozniak stated that since the weather has been warmer than normal, some do come out of hibernation. He stated there is also a disease called white nose which is killing many bats.
Merck has recalled vaccine for PedVax HIB and ComVax because they could not verify sterility.
Dr. Girz noted that flu cases are starting to be seen. Mr. Wozniak stated that about two weeks ago it started to show up in school reports. There are more cases of the norovirus than the flu right now. Absenteeism due to the flu has not spiked yet – it is still within average range.
The Health Officer announced that he has hired a new Sanitarian. Her name is Irena Bairova, and he will bring her into the office on Friday to meet the staff.
The Health Officer and Secretary attended a meeting in Montville to meet with the new Health Educator from Chilton. One of the things discussed was having her prepare a questionnaire for residents to get a feel for what types of programs they may be interested in.
The Secretary reported that the annual SMAC program will be held on Saturday, May 17th.
The Commission decided to change the meeting dates to the first Wednesday of the month.
The Commission is scheduled to meet next on March 5th.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:40 P.M.
