Dr. Girz, Chairman of the Health Commission, opened the meeting at 8:05 P.M.

The latest Public Health Nurse’s activities report was reviewed.  It was noted that positive Lyme Disease cases in Morris County had increased almost 1000% from 1990 to 2001; while decreasing 60% from 2001 to 2006.

The latest Health Officer’s reports were also reviewed.  The Commission noted they found the e-mails sent by Mr. Wozniak on the various recalls very interesting.  Mr. Wozniak noted that there was a recent advisory on chicken treats for dogs and then the recall of hamburger from Topps.  Mr. Wozniak advised that the dog which was placed under the 45-day quarantine for a run-in with a raccoon was released.  The raccoon was not apprehended so it could not be tested for rabies; therefore, the dog had to be quarantined.  Mr. Wozniak reported that Montville and Mountain Lakes participated in a Hilar Drill on influenza.  It was to check the communications system more between the State and the County than on a local level.  Mr. Wozniak stated that all the tobacco vendors inspected successfully passed the Tobacco Age of Sale Compliance checks and were issued certificates of compliance.

The annual Canada goose egg addling program yielded 4 nests and 22 eggs this year.  Mrs. Kubliski asked if it was cost effective to contract for this service.  The Secretary will discuss this with the Borough Manager.

Dr. Girz asked about the status of the rodent situation at Wildwood School.  Mr. Wozniak stated there were not further complaints.

The Secretary reported that the annual rabies clinic will be held on Saturday, November 17th.  The flu clinic is tentatively set for Monday, November 5th.  The date has been confirmed with the doctor, but we still need to get two more nurses and then it will be advertised.  Dr. Stillman asked what the cost would be.  The Secretary replied $15.00.

The Commission members were sorry to hear that Borough Manager Gary Webb was going to retire at the end of the year.  They all agreed he was a very effective Manager and would be missed.

The Health Commission is scheduled to meet next on Monday, November 5th.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:40 P.M.
