HEALTH COMMISSION

MEETING MINTUES

MARCH 14, 2007

PRESENT:               Dr. R. Stillman, Mrs. J. George & Mrs. J. Kubliski

ABSENT:                Dr. B. Girz & Mrs. A. Stone

ALSO PRESENT:   Mr. J. Wozniak, Health Officer

Dr. Stillman, Vice-Chairman of the Health Commission, opened the meeting at 8:05 P.M.

Dr. Stillman questioned Mr. Wozniak about the recent Public Health Partnership meeting.  Mr. Wozniak stated that it was centered on the new Chapter 24 food code relating to restaurants, which replaces the old Chapter 12 in the State Code.  The old code was 35 pages and the new one is now 81 pages.  The major emphasis now is on time and temperature as opposed to the white glove inspection.  The State doesn’t want to prosecute violators right away.  They want to give people a chance to get used to the new regulations.  They feel 6-12 months is needed for this.  Mr. Wozniak stated that he has a 2-page comparison between the two codes.  He did not feel the Commission would want the full 85-page code.  He will send the 2-page comparison to the Commission members.

The latest Health Activities Report and Public Health Nurse’s Report were reviewed.  Mr. Wozniak stated that the recent peanut butter recall has been expanded to include other peanut products going back to 2004.  The problem was with a manufacturing plant in Georgia.

Mrs. Kubliski asked Mr. Wozniak about when the laws might be changing as far as going to shared health services.  Mr. Wozniak replied that he did not think it was going to happen.  This would eliminate local health departments.  Towns would be handled at the County level.  Many feel you would lose home rule and services would go down.  Mr. Wozniak stated we already have a minimal amount of health departments as it is.  Many towns are contracted with one another.

Dr. Stillman suggested canceling the April meeting if there was no urgent business to discuss.  The Health Commission will meet next on May 9, 2007.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:50 P.M.
