Health Department Programs
 

The following is a list of programs and screenings that either are or can be offered through the health department.

HEALTH SCREENINGS

  • Female Cancer Screening: This screening consists of a Pap test, pelvic exam, urinalysis, clinical breast examination, fecal occult blood test, blood pressure evaluation, and health education on female health issues. Referrals are made as appropriate.

  • Male Cancer Screening: This screening consists of a PSA blood test, digital rectal examination, fecal occult blood test, blood pressure evaluation, and health education on male health issues. Referrals are made as appropriate.

  • Skin Cancer Screening: This screening consists of a full body examination by a physician to detect early stages of skin cancer. Health education is provided on skin cancer awareness and prevention. Referrals are made as appropriate.

  • Stroke Prevention Screening Program: This program is provided to screen residents for risk factors associated with cerebrovascular disease and stroke. Screenings include assessment of carotid artery bruits, pulse, cholesterol, and blood pressure. Counseling provided on risk factors, ways to reduce stroke risk factors, etc.

  • Child Lead Screening: This screening consists of venous blood test for the early detection of lead poisoning in children. Health education information and materials are provided. Referrals are made as appropriate.

  • Adult Blood Screening: This blood screening includes a cardiac risk profile (HDL, LDL, total cholesterol and triglycerides ratio), CBC, glucose, thyroid function. Blood testing may vary dependent on age and gender. Also available, hemoccult testing and health risk appraisals.

  • Well Baby Clinics: Held monthly at Montville - call (973) 331-3312.

  • Blood Pressure Screening: Screenings are held twice a year. In addition, the public health nurse is available periodically t
  • check blood pressures at the Borough Hall. Call for availability.

FIRST CALL FOR HELP

First Call For Help (Dial 211) -- Offers comprehensive information about social service programs serving Morris and Passaic counties. It provides a searchable database that contains all the agencies or programs that provide health and human services to Morris and/or Passaic County residents including:

  • Those designated or affiliated with a non-profit organization,
  • Government offices/programs providing health and human services,
  • Special service components of religious organizations, clubs, schools, or special interest groups.
