The Historic Preservation Committee also coordinates the Oral History Project. This project gathers, preserves, and shares with the Community the memories of long-time residents about earlier times in Mountain Lakes. The current archive, located under "Voices of the Past" under Mtn Lakes History includes more than 58 Oral Histories and e-mail recollections. Oral histories are transcriptions of interviews with current or former residents who reside near enough geographically that a face-to-face interview is feasible. E-mail recollections are responses from individuals who live too far away for a face-to-face interview. They are asked to complete a web-based questionnaire and return it by e-mail. Taken as a whole, the collection provides a fascinating glimpse of life and culture in early Mountain Lakes. The HPC conducts oral history training sessions for residents wishing to interview long-time residents about their memories. If you are interested in conducting an interview or would like more information, please contact project coordinator, Margarethe Laurenzi, at e-mail. |
